Through engaging in meditation practice we can develop and maintain a peaceful mind all the time. If we have a peaceful mind all the time we will be happy all the time, regardless of whether our conditions are good or bad. Transforming Adverse Conditions

June meditation series

June meditation series - transforming adverse conditions

When things are going well, and people are kind and treating us with respect, it is not so difficult to wish for them to be happy. However, if our love for others diminishes as soon as they cause us problems or fail to appreciate us, this indicates that our love is not pure. For as long as our good feelings for others are conditional upon their treating us well, our love will be weak and unstable and we will not be able to transform it into universal love. However if we develop real patience our mind will be as stable as a mountain and as calm as the depths of an ocean.

Summer meditation series

summer meditation class

The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, or Lamrim in Tibetan, is a sophisticated, practical presentation of Buddha’s teachings designed to help us improve and grow in a deliberate and joyful way. Over 1000 years ago the great Buddhist master Atisha consolidated the 84,000 teachings of Buddha into 21 essential meditations or the Lamrim making it simple, practical method meditations of the path to enlightenment – available to all. We can find, through our own experience how Lamrim fits perfectly within our modern lifestyle.

These classes this summer takes us step-by-step through these carefully crafted lamrim meditations. Through familiarity with these meditations, we can purposefully nourish the qualities in our mind that lead to our happiness and reduce our painful thoughts and feelings. For example, some of the meditations help us enhance our self-confidence, empathy, or contentment. Others aid us in overcoming distractions, anger, or depression. Overall, by practicing these 21 meditations in conjunction with one another we will notice our mind becoming healthier, stronger, and finally more enlightened.

In these classes, we will go one-by-one through the Lamrim with a special emphasis on the art of meditation and how to make our meditations effective.

September – A Life of Great Meaning

September meditation series

a life of great meaning

What is the meaning of human life? Is it material development? Prestige? Wealth or power? Our human life is rare, precious and meaningful because we can use this life to take control of our mind, to change our attitude from negative to positive, and to develop a supreme good heart.

This September we will develop a deep understanding of the real nature of happiness through our meditaiton practice following Buddha’s precious lamrim teachings.

October – What is the Mind?

October meditation series

What is the mind?

We often say “My mind, my mind” but do we understand the nature and function of the mind correctly? Through understanding the nature and function of the mind we can understand the existence of past and future life and the value of a deep belief in karma.

Join us for meditation classes this October and with meditations on the mind itself. Develop a strong determination to gain control over the mind. Gain experience of the deep inner peace we gain through control over the mind.
