Festivals and Celebrations

Festivals and Celebrations are held throughout the world several times each year.  Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso has organized International and National Festivals and local Celebrations around the world that are accessible for everyone. These events are a wonderful opportunity for modern Kadampa disciples to gather together and receive Blessing Empowerments and teachings.  There are two types of Festivals: International NKT-IKBU Festivals held three times a year, and National Festivals held yearly in countries with Kadampa Centres. There are also Celebrations held yearly in the local area. We hope you can join us for some meaningful online holiday this year!

Please see the festivals and Celebrations that are offered online (due to Covid-19) below.

International Festivals

The New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union ([NKT-IKBU] organizes three international festivals each year: Spring (May) and Summer (July-August) and the Fall Festival.

Spring and Summer Festivals are held at Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre in Ulverson, UK and a Fall Festival hosted by a different country each year.

This year, due covid-19, the Spring, Summer and Fall Festivals are all held online so you are free to join safely from the comfort of your home. We understand that things can be busy when watching from home, so the festival teachings will all be available for viewing two to four weeks afterward. Please see each festival for details.

National Festivals

In addition to International Festivals, each country organizes a National Kadampa Festival each year with a visiting teacher. The Canadian National Festival is typically will be held online this year from September 11 – 14.

Celebrations

are more localized smaller Festivals. There are three Celebrations each year in Canada:

  • Ontario Dharma Celebration
  • Quebec Dharma Celebration
  • Western Dharma Celebration

Due to Covid-19, these Celebrations will be held online this year. More details on dates and how to register coming soon.
