Privacy Policy

Avalokiteshvara Kadampa Buddhist Centre (charity no 81467 9429 RR0001) is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU), which is made up of many meditation centres throughout the world, together with our publishers Tharpa Publications.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. We will only store, use and disclose the information that we collect from you lawfully (in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998). When you sign up for a course or other event, to receive our newsletter, we may need to take information such as your name, home address, email address, and phone number. We will only use this information for such purposes, providing the course, event or newsletter that you have signed up for and for our records.

We may need to share your personal information with third parties who perform services on our behalf. However, we will not share your email address or other personal information with any other organization without your consent, unless we are required to do so by law.

Newsletter

If you have chosen to receive our newsletter, this will include details of upcoming meditation classes, events, news and opportunities – for example, to volunteer or to help financially – offered by Avalokiteshvara Kadampa Buddhist Centre, our National Temple, Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada and other NKT-IKBU meditation centres and Festivals. It may also include details of Buddhist books and other items offered by Tharpa Publications. Our email list is for AKBC use only and not shared with others.

Membership

Membership is maintained with Wild Apricot, an online membership system. Your membership information is used for our purposes only and not shared. You have the option to share your name and Avatar with other members if you choose within your membership account.

Donations

All donations received online are processed securely through CanadaHelps or Paypal. If you donate through Canada Helps, you can download your tax receipt directly from Canada Helps. All donations received through interact eTransfer or Paypal are recorded by AKBC. We retain the information of full name and address in order to send you your tax receipt and for our records.

Other Sites

Our website, newsletter and other emails sometimes contain links to other websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to other websites so, if you visit them, you should read their own privacy policies.
